Yoga which originated in India is mostly associated with the ancient practice of asanas and encourages a better understanding of self, leading to a state of ease.
Before trying yoga, I had led a busy and sometimes stressful life. Following university, I had moved to the US where I worked for a busy Japanese company and enjoyed New York for two years. I then decided to return home to pursue my interest in Art & Design and study for a digital design qualification following which I enjoyed working for several Dublin studios.
Experiencing the stress associated with jobs and deadlines, I began like many people, to feel the need for a better work life balance.
In 2002, I moved with my husband to Japan and practiced regularly. It was in 2005, in Seoul South Korea that my passion for yoga really deepened as I met the challenge of adjusting to life in a big new city and recovery from a serious illness. Classes at Sun Ha's studio near the Han river were highlights in my week.
In 2006, Dagmar Buhler, my friend from the yoga studio in Seoul, and I set out for Vrindavan in the north of India for the intensive one month teacher training at the Sivananda school. The course was rigourous with daily assessments and a final written examination. Yoga teacher certification was awarded based on a successful practical teaching assessment.
After Sivananda, I taught my first classes on the US military base in the centre of Seoul!
